Guys go out to clubs to meet women. Investing time and money in clothing, grooming, etc. They feel quite comfortable, that with all this preparation, they will succeed in their goal.

But there is always that one woman, the one who stands out the most. And most guys when faced with her, forget all about meeting women. All they want to do is meet HER. Now off course she is the bell of the ball, quite accustomed to being approached by everybody and their daddy.

So guys walk up to her and two things happen. One, they get rejected. And secondly they loose their confidence and intial plan to meet women. On top of that all the other ladies in the club see the guys getting dissed, so they start behaving like ” well if he can’t get her, I am not going to play second string for him to pull”.

Now there is a way around this as a mate of mine nicely demonstrated. He to likes to meet women and, if heaven permits, likes to meet the best looking ones. Only he has thought it out a bit more. See he has come to the conclusion he likes women, better than good looking women. But he has also spotted the fact that good looking women can play an important signaling cue that he can heuristically profit from.

He goes up to the best looking woman in the club. But instead of doing the obvious (sexually charged) approaching, he asks a non sexual question: ” I like those shoes, I want to buy a pair like them for my girlfriend. Where did you get them?” Or some other variant. The point being, is for him to be seen talking and smiling with the best looking one.

After a couple of minutes he leaves the good looking one alone and goes for a drink. And would you know it, women start smiling at him and saying hi. Mission acomplished. Seeing what everybody else does, knowing what he wants and using his brain, makes for quite the ladies man. Not bad for a small balding fella with a beer belly.

Using creativity and lateral thinking to oustsmart our competiton on route to achieving business goals is what our profession is all about.

We all know it, so let’s start practising it more and maybe the clients won’t think of us as just style over substance.
