first week of Santiago blunders:

pointing at the kitchen, building up suspense, and uttering the immortal words “that is la cochina” only to have the lady of the house look at you like wtf?

Turns out I meant cocina/kitchen. cochina is…not something you say in front of a 50 year old lady..or any lady (unless in very very specific circumstances)

oh well.. fail fast and all that..
